Too often, employers refer injured employees to medical or minor emergency clinics depending on these type of referrals for their own economic survival - this can lead to a conflict of interest and can result in compromising the injured employee's best medical interests.  Further, it is often not possible to immediately know the full extent of an injury.

The correct diagnosis of an injury is more often accomplished when appropriate medical testing is timely performed and in some cases premature medical testing can result in an incomplete medical diagnosis.

If you are unable to work as a result of your job related injury, you may be entitled to Temporary Total Disability Benefits to help you pay the bills.  When a job related injury is permanent, you may be entitled to an award for Permanent Partial Disability or even Permanent Total Disability in the most extreme cases.

In appropriate cases, disfigurement is compensated.  Paid retraining can sometimes be obtained where the return to one's former work is not medically possible.  Generally, spouses and minor children are entitled to death benefits for an on-the-job casualty.
